Deirdre reached out to me because she had a creative idea for a portrait session, but she wasn't sure if the idea was too corny. There's no such thing in my world. Try me, I said. The idea was this... her young son was obsessed with the movie Titanic. His favorite character was the richest man in the world. Deirdre wanted to mark this moment in time with her son because she knew his obsession with Titanic would fade and he'd soon be on to other interests. Could we do a Titanic themed photoshoot and not have it be tacky? I instantly liked the idea. Really what we were talking about was appropriate wardrobe and styling with fun props incorporated into the mix.
Deirdre purchased two inexpensive dresses from Amazon that replicated Rose's dresses in the film. She also brought a gorgeous, embroidered dress from her closet, and I contributed a dress from my studio for a total of four looks. I was completely enamored with the idea of elaborate hats, so I went to town embellishing hats from the studio's collection to complement each dress. Rummaging through the props area I found fans, gloves and jewelry to elevate each look even further. As you can see with this portrait of Deirdre, it's not tacky at all... just pure elegance.
