During our consultation, Claudia shared with me digital images of her family's heirloom photograph collection. The images were a mix of black and white and sepia tones. Proud people wearing what looked to be their Sunday best. I have similar images in my collection that I cherish. Both Claudia and I feel blessed to be in possession of images that show our families' generational history.
It's one thing to hear a family story of a great-grandmother or great-great-grandfather and quite another to be able to match a picture of that person with his or her oral history discussed over the dinner table or at a family gathering. As the adage goes, a picture is worth a thousand words.
A goal of the photoshoot was to capture a legacy-style formal portrait. To create an heriloom where in the future, the little girl in this image will look back with love and share stories with her children about the incredible women in this photo, their family. Women who are strong and beautiful and who mean the world to each other, which is felt not only in the stories that she tells, but also by seeing their loving connection in this keepsake image.
