The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows. And the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years. | Audrey Hepburn
The challenge for me as a portrait photographer is to truly capture the essence of the person sitting in front of me. A studio setting is not conducive to putting a client immediately at ease. There's a backdrop and a chair and a lighting source, which is either window light or studio strobes. It all looks rather bare. Stepping into the scene is akin to taking a little leap of faith that the photographer will help you overcome any feeling of awkwardness so that you truly look and feel incredible.
During my time with you, it's my job to make a personal connection so that a side of your true personality shines through. Your guard is dropped and a natural expression unveils itself. That's when I click the shutter.
I could see all the desired variables coming together with Shanna at the moment this image was unfolding. She is smiling not only with her mouth, but also with her eyes. To see the smile shine through the eyes... well, mission accomplished. And don't even get me started with those amazing curls.
