#28 of 50: Theresa Kaizer

Independent cabi! Stylist

Theresa is a worker, always has been, always will be. When she was in high school her dream was to be a flight attendant but at that time applicants needed to be 5' 10" and she just missed that requirement by a measly inch. Theresa's typing teacher asked if she wanted to apply for a job as a clerk at the local utility company. She was offered the position and stayed for the next 32 years working her way up the interdepartmental ladder. As supervisor of the credit department Theresa noticed that she excelled at training new employees. For the last 17 years she was with the utility company she worked in the training department.

Before Theresa retired, she was introduced to cabi, a direct-sales clothing company that specializes in professional clothing and weekend wear for women. Theresa describes the design theory of the company in a humorous way. Proceeded by a laugh, Theresa said, "I call it Garanimals for adults. The company does a great job of mixing styles and patters over collections and years. As you buy items, the new clothes will complement clothes you have already purchased."

Even while she was working at the utilities company, she often had a second job working in retail at companies such as Starbucks, Victoria Secret, and Eddie Bauer. It wasn't about the money, although money is always a nice by-product of working. Theresa liked working and being around people. Working until closing, especially at Starbucks, left her tired and drinking way too much coffee, so she decided to switch gears and become an independent cabi stylist. Her love of a pumpkin spice latte in the autumn and peppermint mochas at Christmas persists to this day.

A wonderful aspect to cabi is that it gives her the freedom to travel, in particular to visit her children and grandkids in Colorado on a regular basis. It was not an easy decision for she and her husband to move to Tucson but the winters were long and cold in Colorado, and she wanted more time to explore the outdoors.

No pun intended, but the big "drive" of her free time is to improve her golf game. She enjoys taking classes and group lessons and increasingly she's finding great videos online that help explain better driving, chipping, and putting skills. Needless to say, a great way to spend time with Theresa is to meet her at the golf course and play a round or two.

Read more about Theresa, and see additional portraits from her photoshoot, upon the release of the Wise Women: The 50 over 50 Magazine later this year.
